Unfortunately our year in Australia came to an end but we are looking forward to going back one day!!
It was time to make our way to Arthur's home country of England and to spend time with family and friends as a newly engaged couple!
Here are some highlights from Lillian's first trip to England!
Dartmoor National Park, Devon:
Our first experience was with some highland cattle as we followed the scenic road into the Dartmoor National Park where some of Arthur's family lives.
Before we get to the road the house is on, we drive by Postbridge where there lays an old 13th century clapper bridge. This bridge was built to enable horses to cross the river while carrying tin to the stannary (tin mine) town of Tavistock (we will visit later in the post). Makes for a very photogenic area!
When we arrived to the house we were greeted by Arthur's dog Shakespeare!
We enjoyed spending time with family, practicing archery with Arthur's sister Samara and visiting the horses as well as taking walks along the gorgeous country lanes.
We spent an afternoon exploring the town of Tavistock. Lillian learned what a Pasty was (a delicious baked pastry filled with goodness) and learned a lot about the surrounding history. the town of Tavistock dates back to 961! Sir Francis Drake was born in Tavistock and he carried out the second circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580 and was the first to complete the voyage as captain while leading the expedition which is pretty cool! We found some sweet treats along the way of course.
So much beautiful architecture in one small town and we had a wonderful time strolling through the streets.
It was time to make the drive from Dartmoor to Ashford, Kent to continue visiting Arthur's family. We took the scenic route and explore Stonehenge along the way!
Ashford, Kent:
Right around the corner from Arthur's mum's house is an original Banksy! So of course we had to pose with it.
London:
We spent the day in London with Arthur's brothers. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the London eye, touring the London Dungeon, Big Ben, views of Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. As well as strolling through Hyde Park and of course seeing Platform 9 3/4.
Overall we had an amazing visit in England and such good memories with friends and family! It was now time to head over to our next destination...
